Craniosacral Therapy for Toddlers

Class Description

$525 21 hours

Monday - Wednesday 9:30 - 5:50

Coming 2011 to Portland Oregon

There is great demand for people who are skilled at treating toddlers. I sometimes get desperate calls from parents of toddlers who want their children treated at one of our free infant clinics (limited to babies six months and younger). Sometimes we treat them. Toddlers are special. They aren’t just big babies. They are busy figuring out solid food, more independence, increased mobility, dentition, budding social lives, self control, complex language skills and so much more. Toddlerhood can be a time when parents realize that their children are struggling in some previously unrecognized way. Toddlerhood is a great time for CST.

Prerequisites: in order to take this class, students must have completed Craniosacral Therapy for Infants with Carol Gray. Students must also have practiced their infant CST skills (either in private practice or at free clinics) since the first workshop.

Overview:

In this class we will build on what we already know about treating infants and follow the babies as they move through the developmental stages of toddlerhood. This class will include lectures, demonstrations and lots of hands on with students and, of course, toddlers. In order to maximize learning success class enrollment is limited to six students.

By the end of this three-day class you should be able to:

Describe how toddler bodies are different from infant bodies

Describe the general range of motor, verbal, social and emotional growth and development for toddlers

Effectively communicate with the frustrated parents of “non-eating”/“non-sleeping” children

Help parents establish treatment goals

Explain why this work is helpful to children and their families

Provide treatment for children who are wary of strangers

Assess and treat a moving target

Determine whether a child is struggling on the brink of a developmental milestone

Practice intra-oral work without getting bit (probably)

Evaluate gait and pelvic mobility in the newly-walking and the about-to-walk set

Make a huge difference for children with minimal effort.
